About me
Marta I. Saludes Zanfaño, a passionate biologist who’s revolutionizing sustainable farming with a special knack for pistachio cultivation and organic weed control. Based at the University of Salamanca, Spain, as a graduate member of the Chemical Sciences and Technology group, she is diving deep into the fascinating world of allelopathy—think of it as nature’s own chemical warfare—studying how compounds from pistachios can double as eco-friendly bioherbicides. Her scientific adventures have also taken her across the globe to the University of California, Davis, where she teamed up with experts such as Louise Ferguson and Themis J. Michailides to tackle pistachio salinity challenges and explore bio-fungicides, leading to the publication of two related articles: Article 1 “Pistacia Root and Leaf Extracts as Potential Bioherbicides. Plants 2022, 11(7), 91 https://doi.org/10.3390/plants11070916, and Article 2:”Phytotoxicity of phenolic compounds of Pistacia vera leaves and its potential use as bioherbicide” Crop Protection2024,184,106812 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cropro.2024.106812.
